Hand Print paper weight


You will need:
  • Clay
  • Charcoal
  • Saucer
  • Blunt knife
  • Baking tray [ or other flat surface]
  • Plastic
Method
  1. You can use most any type of clay. 
    1. Air dried clays do not bake.
    2. However remember baked clays will last longer.
  2. Roll clay out with a rolling pin, until about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Cut clay with a butter knife. (saucer or sandwich plate make great templates)
  4. Charcoal the hand that is to be pressed into the clay.
  5. Gently press hand into clay to make imprint.Gently turn over. Using a pencil, carefully write child's name and date.
  6. Allow clay to cure or bake (follow directions for the clay you chose)
    1. usually it pays to dry the clay slowly by keeping the clay in covered with plastic. Uncovering it for a short time each day.
  7. Paint

peanut butter play dough recipe 2


you will need

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar [icing sugar]
  • 1 cup or more powdered milk
Method
  1. Mix peanut butter and corn syrup, add sugar and mix well.
  2. Add powdered milk a little at a time until a stiff dough is formed.
  3. Form the dough into shapes.  
    1. may be even eat later for a snack.
You can also seal this in a plastic container and let your child form their own shapes while eating.

Makes about 32 serves.

Smelly Tip: For nice smelling play dough, add a few drops of vanilla extract, almond extract, or peppermint extract

Edible fun dough 1

you will need

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 cups powdered milk
Method
  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Add more powdered milk to make a more workable dough if needed.
  3. Form the dough into shapes.

Silver bells

You will need


  • paper cups
  • wooden 
  • tin foil
  • pipe cleaners
Method
  1.  
  2. Wrap the tin foil around the outside of the cups.
  3. Tuck the top edge up the inside of the cup.
  4. Slide a wooden bead on the bottom of the pipe cleaner.
  5. Half knot the bottom of the pipe cleaner.
    1. thread the pipe cleaner end back through the wooden bead so that there are no sharp points.
  6. Knot the pipe cleaner half way.
  7. Stick a pipe cleaner up through the middle of the cup until the knot stops it from going through.
  8. Loop the top end of the pipe cleaner back around twisting off at the top of the cup.
    1. Makes a loop to hang the cup with. 
  9. The tin foil at the top of the cup now can be moulded around the pipe cleaner at the top of the cup.

Play Dough 1

You will need

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • food colouring
Method
  1. Mix all ingredients, adding the food colouring last.
  2. Stir over a medium heat until smooth.
    1. about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. When mixture forms a ball in the pot remove from the pot and knead until smooth.
  4.  Let cool.
  5. Can be kept in an air tight container until ready to use.

Cinnamon Ornaments

You will need

  • 1 cup cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cloves
  • 1 tbsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp white glue
  • 3/4 cup apple sauce [ let this drain in a strainer for several hours]
  • Cookie cutters
  • Straw
  • Ribbon
  1. Mix the cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg with the apple sauce and glue.
  2. Work the mixture in your hands until it is smooth and well mixed.
    1. No lumps.
  3. Roll out to 0.7 cm [1/4 inch] thickness and cut with cookie cutters.
  4. Use a straw to make a hanging hole.
  5. Put on wire rack to dry at room temperature for several days.
  6. turn twice daily as this avoids curling.
  7. Thread a piece of ribbon to hang tying off with a double knot..

Hiking necklace

Materials needed
  • Assorted Pony Beads
  • Magnifying Glass
  • Flash light and working batteries.
  • Compass Key Ring (Not Shown)
  • Whistle
  • Hole Punch

Method
  1. Untie the knot on the cord that comes with the whistle.
  2. Retie the cord with a double knot down near the whistle .
  3. This holds the whistle in place.
  4. String three beads each side of the whistle.
  5. String on a small flash light.
  6. Tie off with a double knot.
  7. Add three more beads and another double knot.
  8. Punch a hole in the magnifying glass handle.
  9. String it onto the necklace cord.
  10. Double knot this in place.
  11. Add three more beads.
  12. Repeat the process again and add a small compass.
  13. Tie the ends of the cord together to finish.

Objectives 
  • To keep all emergency equipment together and in easy reach.
  • Introduce safety aspects to organising planning and participation.
